Universal Reveals Ride Vehicles for ‘Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift’
Universal Studios Hollywood has revealed the ride vehicles for its newest attraction, “Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift.” The new roller coaster will bring guests into the high-speed world of the Fast & Furious movies.
Cars Inspired by the Movies
The coaster will feature four different ride vehicles, each based on famous cars from the film series:
Dominic Toretto’s black 1970 Dodge Charger
Han’s 1997 Mazda RX-7
Brian O’Conner’s blue 2002 Nissan Skyline GT-R
Brian O’Conner’s orange 1994 Toyota Supra
These cars will carry riders through the attraction while recreating the feeling of racing through the streets.
How the Ride Works
The coaster track will stretch 4,100 feet, which is about the length of 12 football fields.
One of the ride’s biggest features is its 360-degree rotating vehicles. As the coaster moves at speeds of up to 72 miles per hour, the cars can spin to simulate the sensation of street drifting, just like in the movies.
Timeline of the Attraction
May 2024: Universal announces the ride.
June 2025: Details about the track layout over the park’s Starway escalators are revealed.
March 4, 2026: Universal shares the first look at the ride vehicles.
Summer 2026: The ride is expected to open at Universal Studios Hollywood.
2027: A version of the attraction is scheduled to open at Universal Orlando Resort.
March 17, 2028: The next movie in the franchise, “Fast Forever,” is set to hit theaters.
What Universal Is Saying
Scott Strobl, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Universal Studios Hollywood, called the new ride a “powerful game changer.” He said it will bring a whole new level of excitement to the theme park.
What Happens Next
Construction is still underway on the garage-style building on the park’s Upper Lot that will house the attraction. Universal is expected to announce an official opening date soon, and there may also be early test runs before the grand opening.
The timing is perfect for fans, since the Fast & Furious franchise will celebrate its 25th anniversary later this year, with possible events and celebrations at Universal parks around the world.
