Epic Universe Expansion Coming Soon!
Universal’s Epic Universe theme park only opened to the public on May 22, 2025, but it looks like something new is already on the way. A recently filed construction permit hints that a big expansion may soon begin.
The permit, filed at the beginning of November, shows plans for “site utilities and foundation work” on a 150,000-square-foot area located at 1001 Epic Blvd, Orlando, Florida 32819 — the same address as Epic Universe. It also mentions “new construction” with an estimated completion date of May 7, 2026, less than a year after the park’s grand opening.
A recent photo taken from the Universal Grand Helios Hotel shows a large open area between the hotel and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic. Earlier this year, Karen Irwin, President and COO of Universal Orlando Resort, said, “We’re already planning for the next thing at Epic.”
With a project this large, it’s possible that Universal is preparing to build a new ride or attraction. The space is about the same size as both the Le Cirque Arcanus and Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry buildings combined. The exact spot hasn’t been confirmed, so this permit could relate to any expansion area inside Epic Universe.
Right now, Epic Universe features eleven rides and two live shows spread across five themed portals.
Unfinished Projects Inside the Park
Interestingly, the new permit was filed even though not every part of Epic Universe is finished yet. One unused building remains in Celestial Park, located between the park’s main entrance and the How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk area. If you look closely at the building’s glass doors, you can even see Super Nintendo World reflected in them.
The building’s exterior and patio are already open, giving guests a shady place to sit. While the type of food it will serve hasn’t been confirmed, most believe it will be a quick-service restaurant, expected to open sometime next year.
