Universal Orlando Announces Major Attraction Closures for October 2026
You should consider a few Universal Studios attraction closures when planning your Orlando vacation this fall.
If you're planning a trip to Universal Orlando this fall, there are a few important changes you'll want to know about before heading to the parks.
Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed several temporary closures throughout October 2026, including three popular experiences and an entire water park. While these closures may affect your plans, there's still plenty to see and do at Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe.
Here's what visitors should know before planning their next Universal Orlando vacation.
Jurassic Park River Adventure Remains Closed
One of the biggest closures affects Jurassic Park River Adventure at Universal's Islands of Adventure.
The popular water ride, known for its life-sized dinosaurs and thrilling final drop, has been closed since January for a major renovation. Guests visiting during October will have to skip this attraction, but there's good news for those planning a future trip.
The ride is now scheduled to reopen on December 16, 2026, although reopening dates can change.
In the meantime, Jurassic Park fans can still enjoy other experiences in the area, including Jurassic World VelociCoaster, one of Universal's most exciting roller coasters.
Finnegan's Bar & Grill Is Temporarily Closed
Visitors hoping to enjoy a meal at Finnegan's Bar & Grill will also need to make other plans. Located inside Universal Studios Florida near Revenge of the Mummy, Finnegan's is a longtime favorite known for its Irish-inspired food, drinks, and welcoming atmosphere.
The restaurant has been closed since January 2026 and is expected to reopen sometime this winter. However, an exact date has not been announced.
Fortunately, Universal Studios Florida and the nearby Universal CityWalk offer plenty of other dining options, from quick snacks to full-service restaurants.
Universal's Horror Make-Up Show Is Getting an Update
Another familiar Universal Studios Florida attraction is temporarily unavailable.
Universal's Horror Make-Up Show has entertained visitors for years with a behind-the-scenes look at how Hollywood creates monsters, makeup effects, and frightening movie scenes.
The show combines comedy, audience participation, and movie-making secrets, making it especially popular with horror fans.
After closing in May 2026, the attraction is expected to return this winter with a reimagined experience.
Although visitors won't be able to enjoy the show this October, its planned return gives fans something to look forward to on a future trip.
Universal's Volcano Bay Will Close Until Spring 2027
Perhaps the biggest change involves Universal's Volcano Bay water park. Beginning October 26, 2026, Volcano Bay will temporarily close for maintenance, with plans to reopen on or before April 1, 2027.
The closure affects the entire water park, including popular attractions such as Krakatau Aqua Coaster, Ko'okiri Body Plunge, and Waturi Beach.
If you're planning a Universal Orlando vacation before October 26, you may still have time to include Volcano Bay in your itinerary. For visitors arriving after that date, it's important to plan around the closure and consider other activities during your stay.
There's Still Plenty to Experience at Universal Orlando
You should consider a few Universal Studios attraction closures when planning your Orlando vacation this fall.
While several closures may sound disappointing, they shouldn't stop you from planning an exciting Universal Orlando vacation. Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure continue to offer popular attractions, thrilling rides, and entertainment for visitors of all ages.
Guests can explore The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, experience high-speed roller coasters, meet their favorite movie characters, and enjoy themed restaurants and shopping throughout the resort.
Universal's newest theme park, Epic Universe, also gives visitors an entirely new world of attractions to explore.
October is an especially exciting time to visit thanks to Halloween Horror Nights, which brings haunted houses, scare zones, and seasonal entertainment to Universal Studios Florida on select nights.
Before your visit, be sure to check Universal Orlando's official website for updated park hours, attraction closures, and event schedules.
