New Monsters, Inc. Restaurant Coming to Hollywood Studios as Monstropolis Takes Shape
Harryhausen’s from Monsters, Inc. is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as Monstropolis takes shape.
Big changes are coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios, and fans of Pixar's Monsters, Inc. have plenty to look forward to.
Walt Disney Imagineering has filed a new construction permit for Harryhausen's, a themed restaurant coming to the park's highly anticipated Monstropolis expansion. The restaurant will bring one of the movie's most memorable locations to life, giving guests a chance to dine in the world of Mike Wazowski, Sulley, and their fellow monsters.
With new attractions, restaurants, and entertainment on the way, Monstropolis is shaping up to be an exciting addition to Walt Disney World.
Harryhausen's Restaurant Is One Step Closer to Opening
According to a construction permit filed on October 15, 2026, Disney is moving forward with work on Harryhausen's, the restaurant featured in the original Monsters, Inc. movie.
Fans may remember Harryhausen's as the upscale sushi restaurant where Mike takes his girlfriend, Celia, on a date before things go terribly wrong.
At Disney's Hollywood Studios, the restaurant will replace the former Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano, which closed in 2025 to make way for the new Monstropolis area.
The new permit allows Artistic Entertainment Services, a company experienced in creating themed environments, to complete construction work on the restaurant.
Disney has already made progress on the building's transformation, including work on its exterior. One of the most recognizable features will be a giant pair of chopsticks incorporated into the restaurant's design.
A Monster-Inspired Dining Experience
Harryhausen’s in Disney’s Hollywood Studios will feature an Audio-Animatronic octopus chef to mimic the one from Monsters, Inc.
Harryhausen's won't be an ordinary theme park restaurant. Disney plans to bring the restaurant's playful atmosphere to life with colorful decorations, creative food, and details inspired by the movie.
One of the biggest highlights will be an Audio-Animatronic octopus chef preparing food with its eight tentacles. The character will be featured inside the restaurant, giving guests a memorable experience while they eat.
The menu will also feature dishes inspired by the world of Monstropolis. Disney's culinary team has shared early ideas for ramen bowls with traditional Japanese flavors and unusual monster-themed ingredients, including fishcakes shaped like eyeballs and green eggs.
While the food will have a playful appearance, Disney says the goal is to create meals that are both fun and delicious for guests of all ages.
What Else Is Coming to Monstropolis?
Harryhausen's is just one part of the much larger Monstropolis expansion. The new themed land will transform the former Muppets Courtyard area into the busy city featured in Monsters, Inc. Guests will be able to explore streets inspired by the films, enjoy new entertainment, and experience the world of monsters in a completely different way.
One of the most exciting additions will be a Monsters, Inc. roller coaster inspired by the famous door vault scene from the original movie. The attraction will feature a suspended ride system and a vertical lift, giving visitors the feeling of traveling through the factory alongside hundreds of moving doors.
Another addition will be Archie's Scare Pig Pizza, a casual restaurant inspired by Monsters University. The restaurant will serve pizza and other creative menu items, offering a different dining experience from Harryhausen's.
Guests can also look forward to entertainment at the Glob Theater, where Mike and Sulley will help welcome humans into the monster world.
Together, these additions will make Monstropolis a new destination for Disney fans of all ages.
When Will Monstropolis Open at Disney World?
Disney has announced that Monstropolis will begin opening in phases in 2027. Although an exact opening date for Harryhausen's has not been announced, construction continues throughout the area. The new roller coaster is expected to open after the first phase of the land.
For families considering a Walt Disney World vacation in 2027 or beyond, Monstropolis could be a great reason to visit Disney's Hollywood Studios. The expansion will give returning visitors something new to experience while introducing younger guests to the characters and settings from the popular Pixar films.
As construction continues, Disney is expected to share more details about opening dates, attractions, and dining options.
